Air Force Staff Sergeant Recovering After Being Shot in the Nation's Capital
A member of the Air National Guard is on the mend after he was critically injured in an targeted attack last month in the US capital.
The parents of Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four, say "his head wound is slowly healing and that he's starting to 'regain his familiar appearance,'" said West Virginia Governor the governor.
The family anticipates the military non-commissioned officer to be in intensive treatment for the next two to three weeks, and they feel hopeful about his recovery, according to the official's statement.
The serviceman was one of a pair of state guardsmen injured by gunfire when a gunman opened fire not far from the White House on 26 November. His colleague, 20-year-old Sarah Beckstrom, succumbed to her wounds.
"Our request remains for all state residents and Americans for their thoughts and prayers!" Morrisey declared.
Morrisey was present at a candlelight gathering on last Friday night for the injured soldier at Musselman High School in his hometown, where the serviceman was once a student.
A clergyman at the vigil shared a statement from the guardsman's mother and father, his family.
"We know that there is a difficult journey to go," they wrote, as reported by regional media outlets.
"But our faith keeps us optimistic. We remain grateful for the prayers and the support from people all over the world."
Earlier in the week, the governor said Staff Sgt Wolfe had acknowledged medical staff with a positive gesture and was capable of wiggle his feet.
Law enforcement have charged the alleged gunman, an Afghan national named Rahmanullah Lakanwal, with first-degree murder and assault with intent to kill.
Prior to his arrival to the United States in two years ago, he was once a member of a special forces unit in a CIA-backed unit that worked with American troops in the South Asian nation.
Staff Sgt Wolfe was one of two thousand National Guard members whom the former president deployed to the Washington DC in last summer as part of his immigration and crime-related crackdown in urban centers.
In the aftermath of the shooting, Trump said he wanted another 500 military personnel deployed to the District of Columbia.
The former presidential office has also cited the attack as a justification for further immigration crackdown measures.
They have cancelled all citizenship ceremonies for immigrants from a list of nations that were part of a entry restriction implemented over the recent season, among them Afghanistan.
