NBA game action

Miami scored eighty-six first-half points versus the Grizzlies

Miami Heat claimed a crushing 146-114 win against the Grizzlies in their first basketball game since player Terry Rozier was detained over suspected illegal gambling.

Trail Blazers coach Chauncey Billups was also arrested as part of a broad FBI probe into illegal gambling. Both men deny the claims.

But, the Miami team were focused as they recorded eighty-six opening half points to lead Memphis by 39 after two quarters, the biggest half-time advantage in the franchise's 37 year history.

Adebayo top-scored with 24 scores and later said Terry had the support of the team.

"We stand behind him. Full support," Adebayo said. "You support him through and through. He's like family ultimately."

Miami head coach Spoelstra added: "Rozier is a person who is very dear to all of us. He has made a real positive impact on our team.

"Our thoughts are with him and our care for him as he goes through the situation."

Portland also secured their initial match since the detentions, with Brazilian Splitter stepping in as interim coach in Chauncey's absence and guiding the team to a decisive 139-119 victory over the Warriors.

"Everyone experienced positive times with Chauncey and how he coached," Tiago remarked. "Our thoughts are with him and his family but we have a job to do."

League Commissioner Adam Silver 'Upset' by Recent Events

Addressing the arrests for the first time, league head Adam Silver stated he was "deeply disturbed" by the incidents of the past few days.

"Nothing is more critical to the NBA and supporters than the fairness of the competition," he informed Amazon Prime. "Therefore I felt uneasy. It was very upsetting."

The commissioner further said an league probe into Rozier's conduct in spring 2023, when there was "aberrational betting" in a match he participated for the Hornets versus the Pelicans, discovered no wrongdoing.

"It was brought to our attention by the authorities and the betting companies," he continued.

"We investigated that situation and were very transparent about it. And while there was the unusual wagering, we, honestly, couldn't find anything.

"Federal authorities has subpoena power... [it] can threaten to put people in jail, can do all kinds of things that the NBA is unable to.

"So, we've been working with them since then. Naturally, what they revealed recently was an charge.

"And two and a half years after, he has not been found guilty of any offense, in justice to Terry.

"Obviously, it appears unfavorable, but he's been suspended, and so it is a balance here between upholding rights and conducting an inquiry."
