New York Introduces Online Platform for Citizens to Submit ICE Images Following Arrests of 4 US Citizens

The state attorney general has rolled out a recent reporting form asking residents to provide photos and videos of immigration raids across New York. This action follows a day after a high-profile enforcement action rattled Manhattan's Chinatown, triggering mass demonstrations.

US Citizens Arrested During Enforcement Action

A lawmaker disclosed during a news conference that four American citizens were taken into custody and detained for "almost a full day" after Tuesday's raid. Rallies occurred in NYC on Tuesday and Wednesday nights.

"Every New Yorker is entitled to exist without intimidation," state officials stated in a release.

"Anyone who observed and documented federal operations during the raid, I ask you to share that evidence with us. We are dedicated to reviewing these accounts and investigating any legal breaches."

Submission Process

The form offers fields to upload images and video footage of the incident, along with a section to indicate where it occurred. Before submitting, individuals must tick a checkbox that states that "the office might employ any materials, images, or footage in a official report, including in a court case or public report."

Details of the ICE Action

The enforcement action, which witnesses say involved dozens of federal agents, occurred in a famous district of NYC where fake products and additional items are commonly traded widely – typically to tourists.

Footage of the incident depict multiple covered and weaponized personnel securing and holding a person, and forcing aside witnesses. Throngs of residents trailed the officers through the streets. An armored military vehicle was noticed traveling down the urban roads.

Political Response

At a Wednesday press conference organized with the immigrant advocacy group, congressman Dan Goldman, a lawmaker, said that four nationals were arrested by immigration for nearly 24 hours and that there were "no situations where US citizens should be arrested for no reason." He noted the individuals were released on the following day with no accusations made.

"The intent is obvious here. It is not about removing offenders," Goldman stated. "This constitutes a militarized effort to create conflict. It is purely a excuse to incite violence for this administration to utilize the military to stop violence that they initiated."

Extensive Outcry

Anger over the immigration operation rapidly grew – each of the political contenders criticized the operation, along with NY's governor.

"Yet again, the Trump administration selects authoritarian theatrics that create fear, rather than security. It has to end," a political candidate declared.

New York City immigrant rights groups expressed outrage too.

"Federal officers descended on Manhattan's Chinatown with armored transports, masked agents and tactical gear to target small merchants trying to make a living. This operation had nothing to do with public safety and focused completely on intimidating residents and communities," stated the leader of a major immigrant coalition.

ICE Policies

ICE policy bans the arrest of American nationals and the organization has claimed it does not take into custody US citizens. However, investigative journalism has revealed that more than 170 American nationals have been taken illegally by immigration authorities since the beginning of the existing leadership.

Ongoing Trend

Immigration operations have been rising in frequency in the state and nationwide recently.

A recent action in the city center was the initial documented operation on an immigrant shelter of the existing leadership. Protests targeting federal operations are ubiquitous as are accusations of aggression and abusive practices.

Most recently, a submission submitted by civil rights groups claimed medical neglect of pregnant women in detention centers.
