Edwards along with O'Neil are two of the early candidates in the frame to succeed the former manager as manager of Wolves.

Pereira was sacked on the weekend after the team's 10-match winless start to the Premier League campaign.

And both candidates - both of who have previous links to the team - are among the names to be evaluated by the Wolves ownership.

The manager is presently at another club, which would pose a potential obstacle to his appointment at Molineux.

Nevertheless the ex- Luton Town manager - who made over a century of games for Wolves during his time as a player - is considered a leading candidate for the vacancy.

The 42-year-old is said to have backing from the Wolves board as they begin the process of hiring a fresh manager.

O'Neil is also emerging as a unexpected candidate, even though he would be a surprising choice given he was sacked by the club in December last year.

The ex- West Ham player is currently unemployed meaning Wolves would not be required to pay any compensation.
