Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Retains The Club's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it's natural for doubts to be asked about his future following another convincing loss versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool suffered their ninth defeat in twelve games, marking the club's worst run after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a tough night at their home ground.
“I feel secure, I am OK, I have got a lot of support from above,” the coach commented.
“It's important to reverse this trend and earn three points naturally but when you're working as a coach and underperforming then it's typical that people question you.”
He continued, “I'm comfortable with my role. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a difficult position but it is about time that we improved our results.”
Talks with The Board
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach explained:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful to the team and for me and those talks happen but they don't phone me constantly each day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “During our regular exchanges I feel the confidence. However I've not talked to them after this match so far so we'll see.”
Familiar Issues and Player Response
The manager lamented recurring shortcomings from his team in their European loss, specifically poor finishing and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the answers. Frankly, I do not. I’m saying that to everyone,” Jones said.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to think about it. I'm beyond getting mad internally. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the phrases.”
He continued, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool all my life.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Reds side going through a period such as this with results like these.”
He finished, “However we still have the emblem on our chest. And until that badge is gone, we'll continue to battle.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad back to its rightful place, show everyone once more the values of this club and why it's known as the best team in the world.”
“At this moment, things are bad and it must improve.”
